According to Geo News, the Islamabad High Court has ordered the formation of a medical board to review Imran Khan health condition while rejecting a request to transfer him from jail to a private hospital.
IHC Orders Medical Board to Examine Imran Khan Health
According to Geo News, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed authorities to form a medical board to assess Imran Khan health condition while he remains imprisoned at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

The court issued the directive. After hearing a petition requesting that the former prime minister be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for specialized treatment related to his eye condition. However, the court rejected the request for his immediate transfer outside the prison.
The case was heard by a division bench consisting of Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro.
Medical Board to Include Senior Eye Specialists
In its written order, the court instructed the Islamabad chief commissioner to immediately establish a medical board that will conduct a fresh medical evaluation of the PTI founder.
The board will include leading eye specialists such as:
- Dr Muhammad Arif Khan, Head of Ophthalmology at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad
- Prof Dr Nadeem Qureshi, Head of the Vitreo-Retina Department at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi
The board will examine Khan’s condition and submit recommendations to the chief commissioner, who will then determine whether the former premier should receive treatment outside jail or continue medical care within prison facilities.
Imran Khan Diagnosed With Serious Eye Condition
Reports presented before the court revealed that Imran Khan has been diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye disorder caused by blockage of the vein responsible for draining blood from the retina.
Medical experts say the condition can be associated with several health risk factors, including:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol levels
- Diabetes
- Heart-related diseases
Doctors have reportedly scheduled a third eye injection for March 23 as part of Khan’s ongoing treatment plan.
Court Rejects Transfer to Private Hospital
Despite acknowledging the medical issue, the Islamabad High Court rejected the request to move Khan from jail to a private hospital.
The court explained that under Pakistan Prison Rules, the authority to move a convicted prisoner outside jail for special medical treatment lies with the government.
Judges also noted that the court cannot replace executive authority under Section 561-A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Multiple Medical Checkups Already Conducted
The court also reviewed reports submitted by the superintendent of Central Prison Rawalpindi, which showed that Khan has already undergone several medical examinations in recent weeks.
According to the report, his health was reviewed on:
- January 16, 2026
- January 24, 2026
- February 2, 2026
- February 20, 2026
Officials informed the court that his condition has shown improvement following ongoing treatment.
Court Orders Authorities to Inform Family
The IHC further directed prison officials to strictly follow jail regulations requiring authorities to inform the prisoner’s family if a serious medical condition develops.
The court also instructed Dr Nadeem Qureshi to remain in contact with Khan’s family regarding updates on his medical condition.
In addition, the bench reiterated earlier court orders allowing Imran Khan to meet his lawyers and family members according to procedures outlined in a previous IHC ruling issued on March 24, 2025.
Recent Hospital Visits From Adiala Jail
Imran Khan has been taken from Adiala Jail to PIMS Islamabad on multiple occasions for examination and treatment of his eye condition.
His most recent hospital visit occurred on February 24, when he was taken to PIMS under strict security arrangements for a scheduled follow-up checkup.
Doctors are continuing the treatment process, with the next injection expected later this month.
